Full - time academic positions in Computer Science FAQs ?
The Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados, "Cinvestav" after its name in Spanish) welcomes applications for full-time academic positions in Computer Science. In 2020 a similar call for positions was published by our Department but on the grounds of force majeure that CFP was abruptly cancelled. Applicants are required to hold a PhD in Computer Science or in a related discipline, and to have an excellent research record, or an evident potential to develop an excellent research career. Candidates from all areas of Computer Science are welcome to apply. Although preference would be granted to those with specialities within Data Science or Machine Learning, candidates with strong merits, even in other areas of Computer Science, could be awarded a position. Both junior and senior researchers are encouraged to apply for a position. The type of appointment in turn could be as an Assistant or as an Associate Professor. The salary is competitive and varies depending on the curriculum of the candidate (it is worth noting that research experience is emphasized over teaching experience). Each contracted candidate is expected to have a light teaching load (one graduate-level class per term), so that he/she can concentrate mostly on research activities. Candidates do not need to be fluent in Spanish, as they may full their duties in English. Cinvestav is the most important public research center in Mexico, with more than six hundreds full-time researchers and it has the second highest scientific productivity (per researcher) in Mexico (just after UNAM, which is the largest Mexican university, far greater in size than Cinvestav). The Computer Science Department offers both MSc and PhD programs in CS (Cinvestav only offers graduate programs). Both programs are included in the National Graduate Program certication from Mexican CONACyT, which means that all our full-time students receive a full scholarship from the Mexican federal government. Interested candidates must apply by sending an email to jobs2020@cs.cinvestav.mx, including the following information (as a single PDF file): 1. A detailed curriculum vitae that clearly indicates the publications in international journals (highlighting the papers in journals included in the Journal Citations Report), and a list of MSc and PhD graduates (if any). The candidate should also include a copy of the three papers that he/she considers as the most representative of his/her research. 2. A research statement that briefly (no more than 1 page) describes the sort of research that the candidate has done so far and his/her research plan in case of being hired. 3. A teaching statement that briefly (no more than 1 page) describes the sort of graduate-level courses (in computer science) that the candidate can teach (and has taught in the past, in case of having teaching experience). 4. The names and contact information (postal address, phone and fax number, and email) of three references. If the applicant wishes, a presentation letter might be added, briefly indicating the candidate's motivation and suitability for the position. Applications will be evaluated in a first come-first served basis. The deadline for applying is February, 18, 2022.
